Did you know that music has therapeutic benefits? music has been used as a means of alleviating stress, promoting well being, and for ritualistic purposes for centuries. In fact, you can pursue studies in music therapy and eventually become a licensed music therapist.
According to the American Music Therapy Association, “Music Therapy is an established health profession in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. … Music therapy also provides avenues for communication that can be helpful to those who find it difficult to express themselves in words. Music therapists must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in music therapy from one of AMTA’s 72 approved colleges and universities, including 1200 hours of clinical training.”
Imagine the therapeutic effects of music therapy together with massage therapy! These combined therapies have resulted in very positive outcomes for patients in palliative care, those with degenerative diseases, premature babies, and even patients with Alzheimer’s.
How does it work?
According to Nationalwide Children’s Hospital “Sometimes the combination of sensory stimuli offered by massage therapy and music therapy can create just the right environment to encourage a patient to engage or focus. Or it can be the perfect recipe to help reduce a patient’s pain and help them relax.”
If you or a loved one is suffering from chronic pain or any of the other conditions mentioned, do give music and massage therapy a try! you can read more about recent advances in combined therapy on the US Libray of Medicine site.
